FAQs
Below are answers to our most frequently asked questions. If you don’t see what you are looking for, let us know: help@framedandmatted.com
FRAME SIZE
For a variety of reasons, the largest frame we offer has a mat that is 40”x32”. If you need something larger, send an email to help@framedandmatted.com and we will see what we can do. If possible, we highly recommend that you avoid an oversized frame.
WHAT WE FRAME
Our frames are perfect for any work-on-paper, including prints, posters, drawings, paintings, and photographs (just not pastels). We are not able to make frames for works on canvas or fabric.
MEASURING YOUR ART
Just getting a frame?
Measure the horizontal and vertical dimensions of your entire artwork and input that exact size. Your frame will be cut to fit the exact paper size entered in the frame builder.
Getting a mat and a frame:
Measure the horizontal and vertical dimensions of the portion of your artwork that you would like showing through the mat opening. To hold your artwork in place, we will automatically cut the mat opening 1/4" smaller than the artwork size entered in the frame builder (per industry standard, this will allow for a 1/8" overhang to prevent your artwork from slipping through the mat opening).
If you will not be displaying your whole picture, it is also important to order a mat that is large enough to cover the rest of your picture. If not, you will need to cut your picture to fit in the frame.
If you would like assistance in getting the perfect measurement, you can send us a picture of your art and we will walk you through the process.
ARTWORK MOUNTING
We supply everything you need to easily mount your artwork at home. Here is a step-by-step guide to help you through the process.
WHY HIGH-QUALITY MATERIALS
Using high-quality materials is essential in preventing the fading, burning, and cracking of art that is inevitable with works framed with low-quality materials.
OUR STANDARD MATERIALS
Choice of museum quality, defect-free acrylic
UV acrylic (filters 98% UV light) or Acrylic (filters 87% UV light)
The UV filter protects against environmental factors such as light, heat, pollution, and humidity, which can quickly fade and discolor your artwork. Compared to glass, acrylic offers superior UV protection, slightly lower glare, greater durability (less chance of breaking and damaging your art), and lighter weight, making it safer and easier to ship, handle and hang.
Conservation Matboard
Prevents acid mat burn which causes yellowish-brown stains to appear around the edges of your object and can also make the paper brittle and weak. Our mats are all 4-ply and have a white core. Mat openings are cut with a beveled edge revealing a portion of the white core.
ArtCare Archival Acid-Free Foam Core Backing
Protects artwork from corroding acids found in regular foam core board.
Wood Mouldings
Mouldings are made from hardwood. Some styles have a decorative veneer for a consistent finish.
The Extras
In addition, all the other finishing materials and hardware are included with your frame, including the d-rings, hanging wire, picture hooks, and archival hinging tape for mounting your artwork. Like our frames, these are of the highest quality so that you know that you have framed and hung your object appropriately.

TURN-AROUND TIME
All frames are assembled and shipped in the US. Because we generally have all the materials in stock, if you order a custom frame by 11 am EST, it will ship from our workshop 3 business days later for Frame Kit orders and 4-5 business days later for Print + Frame orders (you will be notified if there will be any delays with your order). From there, it is up to FedEx ground, which usually takes between 2-5 business days. Even with a few shipping days, you will get your frame much faster than you would from nearly any retail frame shop.
FREE SHIPPING (always)
We hate surprises during check-out so we made shipping free. The price you see when you build your frame is the price you pay when you buy your frame.
CARRIER
We use FedEx Ground for all of our shipping needs. If you do NEED your frame faster, send an email to help@framedandmatted.com and we will do everything we can to get it to you faster. But be warned: because of the low rates we have negotiated with our shippers, any expedited shipping will incur a significant fee.
WHERE WE SHIP
At this time we only ship throughout the Contiguous United States. Our apologies to our friends in Alaska, Hawaii, and worldwide, but we are working on expanding our reach.
